I’m baaaack!
That was a long forced break from the internet. I could have kissed the Verizon guy today. Well, not really, he smelled of stale cigarettes & surprisingly, sweat – not that I didn’t think he wasn’t working hard enough to sweat, but who could sweat when it’s -12 outside?
Anyhoodle, I’ve spent an uninterrupted hour (thanks kids!) checking email, sorting through my Reader, & catching up on what’s been going on in the outside world. Now it’s about time to make supper, so of course, I’m procrastinating & doing a blog post instead.
The lack of internet wasn’t all bad. I have most of my Christmas baking done, I read countless books to the kiddos, I worked out & I read some books on my ‘need to read’ list.
Lately, Ethan’s been asking to watch the first Harry Potter movie with a friend. I LOVE Harry Potter. I cried when I finished the last book, not because the ending was so great, because that last chapter? AWFUL! I suspect JK Rowling took leave of her senses when she wrote the epilogue. I cried because I was so sad there would be no more Harry Potter books to lose myself in. I consider myself to be a purist when it comes to Harry Potter. I may be the only fan of the books that has not seen any of the movies. I’ve seen parts of some of them but have never made a point to sit down & watch the movies. My original plan was to see them after the book series was finished, & now that it is, I still can’t bring myself to let some movie director envision the Harry Potter World for me. But Ethan’s been bugging & our current compromise is that after he finishes the first book, he can watch the first movie. I’m not sure when he’ll be able to tackle the Sorcerer’s Stone, but I’ll let him decide.
The whole Harry Potter thing is a segway to me admitting that while I have a deep & abiding love for Anne of Green Gables, I have never read the books. !gasp! This past weekend, I rectified that. I finished the first 2 books, & borrowed books, 3, 4, & 5. I have no idea why I never read them when I was younger. I have always loved to read, but for some reason I never cracked open the Anne series. So now I can in good conscience tell Ethan he has to read the books & then he can see the movies, because I am now realizing that the Anne series is much richer as books than they are as movies.
Sheesh, this post is all over the place. I was just going to post pictures of the ice storm. Ah well, here they are anyway.
