Did you know that pine trees can wreak havoc on your DSL? Me neither. Our internet had been getting slower & slower all last week & finally crapped out on Sunday. Jason took it harder than I did, something about a Vikings game & a Twins game that he could only watch using the Slingbox which requires internet access which we no longer had. Everything was finally fixed today.
Lots of things to catch up on, my Reader is overflowing, my blog posts are piling up, & I’ve realized how bad my addiction to this laptop is.
I am proud of myself for not getting too worked up about being disconnected. I think I only snapped at Jason once or twice out of internet withdrawal frustration & the kids have had a lot more face time. Speaking of which, duty calls.

My husband is a vacuuming machine. He picks up toys & clothes. He even moves furniture! I generally employ child labor on the toys & kick the clothes out of the way. I never move anything other than the occasional foot stool. I love it when Jason gets fed up with living in filth

My question for your Monday is, What would you tell your kids if a sex offender moved into your neighborhood?
A friend informed us we had one move into our subdivision. The National Sex Offender Registry doesn’t give a picture or current age. It does say that the conviction was reproducing &/or selling child pornography. The guy lives at the opposite end of the road from us. Anyway, I’m wondering what to tell the boys. We’ll definitely revisit the stranger danger stuff but I’m not sure how much of the sex offender stuff to tell them.
Just when I was getting comfortable with letting Ethan ride bikes around the neighborhood with his friend…

We’ve been hearing a lot about elementary school weddings this week. Ethan came home this week talking about a friend who was going to get married to some girl at lunch on Thursday. Today, Gavin overheard a conversation I had with a friend about her 1st grade son’s impending nuptials to another friend’s daughter.
That started Gavin thinking about what he’s going to wear to his wedding. He was disappointed to learn Jason didn’t buy the tux but Gavin thought maybe he’d try to buy it since Jason didn’t. He was especially concerned with my wedding dress. After we arrived home from school he asked me to pull out the dress so he could see it. After he looked it over, he asked “Will you save it for me so my wife can wear it?” I wish you could have heard his tone, it was like he was doing a business transaction. He even wanted it put in his closet so I wouldn’t forget.
So to Gavin’s future bride, no need to worry about the clothing arrangements, Gavin’s got it all figured out.

Tova has finally discovered the joy of baby dolls! The kids each have a doll & Tova has decided she likes Gavin’s best. Gavin has been surprisingly okay with this (not because he was attached to his doll, but that Tova was playing with something that was his). For the last two days Baby has gone everywhere with us. I’m thrilled Tova has started playing with ‘girl’ toys. Up till now, her favorite thing to play with has been cars. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I’ve been harboring hope that we might someday use some of the girl things I’ve been squirreling away.

Our first playgroup of the year started today. I only took Tova. Gavin was much more excited about playing with Ethan & Jason so I left him home. I have to say it felt very odd. I’ve been doing playgroups since Ethan was 3 months old. Not since my first year of playgroups have I been in a group where I didn’t know most people. With the exception of one mom, I didn’t know anyone. I might be forced to make new friends!
I guess with having kids 6 years apart, I straddle a couple of social groups, the group with kids in elementary school & the toddler group, with some preschoolers mixed in. Only a few of my friends have kids in each area as well. The sociologist in me could have lots of fun with this, but I’ll digress.
Jason & Ethan are doing much better. Ethan hasn’t run a fever since yesterday afternoon, & Jason went back to work after lunch. Gavin, Tova & I have been holding our own. I’ll give credit to the orange juice because I don’t want to go for another run. This 5K in November is starting to look like a bad idea…
I’m off to either help Ethan with his Lego Metrodome or maybe I can convince him to join me in a game of bananagrams.

Jason has strep. He walked in the house last night looking & sounding terrible. He spent most of the evening in bed with a fever. This morning he wasn’t feeling much better so he went to the dr. & now he has strep. I’m guessing I’ll have it next since I slept next to Coughy McCoughsalot all night last night. I’m doing my best to ward it off though. I’m guzzling the orange juice & I even went for a run today. I actually completed a whole mile running without feeling as if I was going to pass out. Success!
I ♥ Walgreen’s. I had to swing by & pick up Jason’s antibiotic & their power was out. I had $9.86 in my purse & they had Jason’s scrip for $10. Instead of making me drive to the bank to get more cash, they just let me have the scrip for the cash I had with me. I thought that was so nice.

Update~
Ethan came home from school really dragging. I took his temp & he had a nice fever going. He said he’d been feeling bad since lunch. He claims his throat doesn’t hurt so I’m not going to take him for a strep test yet, I expect tomorrow I’ll need to though. The kid has a high pain tolerance (at least when it comes to illness. If his brother were to touch him, that’s a different story) so I’m feeling hopeful I’ll get his strep treated before his tonsils are so swollen they touch.
Two down, 3 to go…

I really have nothing to say. Too much stuff swirling around, nothing’s really making sense enough to do a coherent post. I’m sure you all have something better to do than read about the garage sale (it went fine despite the rain) & our shopping trip to buy Tova some pants (she’s in 18 month pants, but needs to add some girth along with the height soon or she’ll be wearing skirts & tights all winter). Such was the excitement of our weekend. Instead of boring you with minutiae, here’s one of my favorite pictures of Gavin.

Aren't his eyes stunningly blue?
