We’ve been doing a lot of swimming lately. Our church had it’s annual pool party Sunday & it was 8000° outside today so we had to spend some time in the pool.
Ethan has been jumping off the low board all summer. Unfortunately, the city pool is one of the few that hasn’t succumbed to the inevitable High Dive Lawsuit & Removal. Ethan was tall enough to jump off but a little too scared. Fine by me, I’m not real thrilled with the idea of him being wet & so far from the ground. Until yesterday. Something about being surrounded by friends gave him the courage to jump off the high dive. I gave my okay thinking he’d see how far down it was & he’d decide not to jump. Originally that’s what he did. But the lifeguard has to help kids back down the ladder & that freaked Ethan out more than the distance to the water, so he jumped. He was bubbling over with excitement. Me, not so much, but I was proud he had the courage to jump. The rule is no running on the boards & hopefully that’ll keep him up on that not-so-wide plank.
Gavin jumped off the low dive, but he keeps telling me he can’t wait to be tall enough for the high dive. I believe him. He had no trouble jumping in. The kid has no fear. He was going off the board today but had to stop because he wasn’t using “big arms” (getting your arms above the water while doing the crawl). He’s a decent swimmer but prefers to do a modified butterfly-doggy paddle stroke. He was pretty upset when the lifeguard told him he was done on the boards for a while but we were almost done swimming for the day anyway so it all worked out.
Tova enjoys the pool too. She’s loving her arm wings, sun glasses, & her watering can, what else does a girl need?
